Students for Individual Liberty at the University of Virginia was founded in the late 1980s, and is the oldest libertarian organization on grounds. The purpose of SIL is to promote the discussion, presentation, circulation, and acceptance of libertarian ideas among its own members and people in the Charlottesville area.

S.I.L is an educational, non-political organization; our purpose is to disseminate information and encourage debate on public policy issues from a free-market, individual rights perspective.

Students for Individual Liberty at the University of Virginia aims to meet at least once every month to plan activities, discuss ideas, and get to know each other. Sign up for our email list for more (located under the Email Sign-Up tab above).

Students for Individual Liberty at the University of Virginia frequently hosts guest speakers such as Tom Palmer, Rebiya Kadeer, and James Lark. Check out our events page for information about upcoming speakers.

We hold a variety of other events throughout the year. This includes activism events such as tabling or creating a Civil LIberties Graveyard (pictured). We also can help arrange attending conferences for libertarian organizations across the nation.
